First thing to know is who are you selling to or providing your service for? Most people in a home bases business are not sure or do not have a clue. You must learn who the people are buying from you! Not knowing will result in a lot of wasted effort and money. Find out the demographic profiles of your clients. What are the age groups buying from you? Are they mainly male or female? Where do they typically live, rural or urban? You will better be able to market to your clients if you first understand who they are.
Next you need to understand what is your Business? Are you all about the products or service that you provide? Then you are like the majority of home business owners and are something you will need to take a second look at. By focusing on the solutions you offer, the experiences you can give and your desires to help other succeed, you can increase your business exponentially. A great example of this is Starbucks. Is it just coffee they sell? No, they offer an experience in the process of making your beverage of choice as well as a relaxing atmosphere in which to drink your coffee. Another fine example is some of the Japanese restaurants out there with the chef cooking, juggling his knives and performing right at your table. They may not have the best food around, but they found a niche that other places do not offer.
Implementing these two will allow you to market your business in a position if great strength. Consider how you would do if you had a company that offers a great product but also would help your customer whichever way they needed? By combining these, you would position yourself up amongst the leaders of your industry.
Third you need to know where your business is. In today’s world, you are bound only by your own limits. Looking at all the new technology, your marketplace is endless and your boundaries are only restricted by what you want to accomplish. Place your business in a position of convincing marketing and use strategies to make people believe you are the best so they skip everybody and go straight to you.
What do you want your business to be? You figure that out and your income will only increase.
Finally you need to understand your price. The biggest mistake home business owner make is they think people shop for cheap price. That could not be further from the truth. I have read that 75% of people do not list price as number one reason why they buy. It is the “perceived value” that is projected onto the consumer by the company or salesperson. This is how much the product or service is worth to the individual taking into consideration their specific situation. Your product or service might be more expensive that another, however you must understand why. Is there higher grade or more ingredients, do you offer more training, constant assistance. Whatever the reason you must understand it and be able to explain it in a way that your customers can relate to.
Once you have figured out these few areas, you will be able to market your products and services, your company, your price and more importantly yourself.
